My sloop is on the hard in jack stands and I am in the process or removing and regasketing my Westerbeke (aka Perkins 4-108) . I'm pretty boxed in on the hard so the yard may not be able to get the crane to me. Considering removing from the cabin using the boom supported with couple of halyards. I'm not worried about the boom, but I do worry about 450 pounds hanging from the boom and lowered over the side-specifically- will my boat fall over? That would not be fun....HAs anyone done this on the hard?

I have removed my 4-107 using the boom as you stated while the boat was on the hard on stands. As long as the weight of the boat is on the keel (thus on the ground) like it should be everything should be fine. Make sure your halyards are in good condition.

And make triple sure all the supporting rigging, lifts & fittings for the boom are sound. One weak link and...

Engine came out without a hitch-boat did not budge. Now on to the engine work. Starting a new thread for that project.
I have a 1977 Pearson 365. I have to remove the engine. You indicated you did it without a hitch. Would you have any tips?

My Westerbeke (Perkins 4-107) came out of the companionway without removing a single item off of the engine.
Throw a block an tackle around your mast to help slide it back.
Perfect time to do the fuel tank.
