Title: Gallows
Post by: S/V AMITY on July 05, 2019, 03:56:03 PM
Has anyone fabbed & installed gallows for the main boom?  Am not a big fan of hanging the boom on the topping lift when on the hook.  Pictures, narrative or cautions much appreciated.   Cheers!

One foot long cable with a snap shackle bolted to the front of the mizzen mast holding up the boom.  Tighten main sheet to secure.  Easy easy money compared to constructing gallows.

Phantom came with this pennant and it is very useful.  We made a simple gallows for the mizzen boom to be the aft connection for a cockpit awning.

Thanks for the words S/V Journey & Jim S.  My only thought is somehow to keep he boom solidly stationary in a rolly anchorage.  Oddly, I can sleep fine off watch when under sail but moored in a harbor in rocking conditions, even a pencil rolling in a drawer can keep me up.  Maybe the solution is to double-up the nightcap before turning in.  Cheers!
