Title: Starter solenoid amperage
Post by: Leo II on April 24, 2019, 08:54:44 PM
I'm replacing my starter solenoid. Does anyone know what amperage rating is required for a Westerbeke 40?  I couldn't find it in my manual.

Almost any standard Ford relay should do just fine.  You probably pull about 80 amps max, which is about what the #2 wires that feed it can do without a voltage drop.  This is an auto parts store buy as getting it from anyplace else will cost more for basically the same part.  Order a 4 terminal one from a V-8 Ford.  They're 80 Amp and did me fine for years.

Thanks, I bought an 85 amp solenoid from an auto parts store. But had gotten cold feet about installing it.
