Title: Need a Jack Shaft
Post by: SVTheEdge on April 25, 2018, 08:51:53 PM
Well I'm dead in the water again.  The edge had a solid shaft which some said wouldnt work, others said it might.  Walter V-drive said it would'nt, but they are trying to sell a 2,000 dollar jack shaft.  For 40 hrs the shaft ran smooth, then the packing started leaking really badly and shaft started wobbling.  I think it was after nailing the throttle in reverse trying to avoid another boat in a slip when the wind was blowing hard.  So now the boat yard said it certainly needs a telescoping jack shaft with a u joint.  BTW, mine didnt even have a u-joint.  So, does anyone know where I could find a used jack shaft with a u-joint? many thanks

Have you checked with a custom drive shaft shop?

Not yet, but I'm leaning that way.  I heard Pete W makes them.  I really dont understand what the heck is going on with these alignment and such
