Title: Water Temp Gage on Universal 5444
Post by: Hooligan on July 09, 2017, 07:41:06 AM
Well my Teleflex water temp gage stopped working. Time to replace. They no longer make this gage, so I guess i will have to replace
both the gage and the sending unit. Anyone have suggestions for a new Water temp gage for a Universal 5444 engine

You can get some very hi-tek temp gauges these days either online or at your auto parts store. I like the ones with both analog and digital readouts. They come in either blue or red LED. Make sure 180-190 is midrange so that the needle is straight up for normal operating temp. Use the sender they give you with the gauge. Meter movement gauges start at about $25.

Can't help you finding an OEM gauge. Stewart comes to mind although.

I've got the same 5444 and am still using the original (??) Stewart Warner gauges (except Tach was replaced by someone in the past). So, I can't help you here.

I really don't think it matters, as long as sender and gauge match.  Just make sure it has red illumination for at night.

Don't know if these are good gauges or if this place has good prices.

Pete's advice  about 180/190 at top of gauge is a nice tip. on Mine, 190 is near the end of the scale on the right.

I went to 2 O'Rielly's. Auto Zone, NAPA and Advantage and not one had a replacement gage. they all carry mechanical gages no
electrical. I guess i will have to order one from Lambs Marine or Defender.
