Title: Stuck in New Jersey
Post by: Hooligan on September 22, 2016, 05:14:57 AM
Can anyone tell me what type of alternator is on the Universal 5444?  I am stuck in New Jersey with a
Bad alternator.

I have a 5444 that came with an unlabeled alternator, no idea what kind it was, but probably in the 50 amp to 80 amp range because it had a 3/8" belt.   During rebuild, I replaced it with a 100 amp from Rich.

You will likely only be able to get whatever alternator fits the belt size of water pump and crankshaft pulleys, which is max. 1/2"
Crankshaft pulley is metric, so 3/8" rides a little low and 1/2" rides a little high.

Good luck.

I got lucky. It was not the alternator, just a loose wire. I still have to find out what alternator the 5444 takes.
