Title: Rudder skeg
Post by: stbtack1 on June 08, 2016, 06:22:35 PM
After doing extensive bottom refurbishment last winter/spring we noticed a small amount of water weeping from the bottom of the skeg last week. We drilled a few holes and extracted about a 1/2 gallon of water from the hollow. Does anybody have any experience with the rudder skeg or know anything about it's construction?
Thanks in advance

I don't know too much, but I had occasion to research it on a friend's boat, and there is a company, Foss, that makes replacement Pearson Rudders.  I believe they have a welded stainless steel frame and a fiberglass shell.  They made rudders for several boats as an OEM supplier back in the day.  They are at http://www.boatrudder.com/rudders.htm#top. If you call them, I bet they could tell you a lot.  I know they knew a lot about an O'day 27 rudder at one point.
