Title: Dumb Problem: Dripping Oil Drain Plug
Post by: Anonymous on January 30, 2007, 05:00:30 PM
I removed my oil drain plug on my Westerbeke 40 several years ago before I learned that I could pull the oil out of the dipstick tube.

It was OK for quite some time, but has started a slow drip.  I have removed it twice.  First time I applied some gasket goo, and it seemed to help.  Then it started dripping again.  Second time, I got a whole new drain plug and gasket and did not use goo.

Still dripping.

There was some old gasket material left on the flange on the oil pan that I have tried to scrape off.  (Very difficult to reach!!)

I need to check for a crack or leak elsewhere, but I think it is the plug.

Any suggestions?
