I thought I had adequately documented which wires went where when I removed equipment a few months ago, but I guess not. I am putting my alternator and regulator back in the boat, but can't figure out the wires.
I made schematics of the instrument panels and ignition bus, but I can't figure out where the alternator wires go and how the regulator is connected.
Here's what I have:
Alternator: unknown model/brand (Maybe Powerline?), 3/8" v belt, one BAT terminal, one plug with 4 wires (three were not hooked up, one went to tach.
BAT terminal had the big cable going to potitive bus and one white, 12 or 10 ga wire going to ??? maybe the voltmeter?
Regulator: Hehr Powerline Aqualine, model unknown.
so far, all I can figure out from the diagrams I have are that 1) alternator has a 12 ga wire going somewhere, either to volt meter, ignition bus, or regulator.
My schematic shows one wire going from regulator to ignition bus, but no other wires on the schematic.
The wire going from regulator to ignition bus is the white/black stripe.
Wire going from alternator plug to tach is the gray wire, labeled P
I don't even know if the regulator was even doing anything. For all I know, a PO replaced the alternator with an internally regulated one and never removed the regulator. I now there were several wires on regulator and alternator that were not hooked up to anything.
What do the letters mean on the alternator (S, F, L, P) and the regulator (I, A, S, F) and to what should they be connected?
At this point, I 'm not even ready for the alt/regulator to be installed. I am just messing with it because I need to get the engine running for hurricane season (I"m still in the middle of some serious interior remodel). If I leave no wires connected to alternator, will it be damaged if I run the engine? I know batts will not be charged from alt, but I have a shore power charger for that for now.
Here are some pictures of what I have.

Thanks for your help.
