Title: Fuel fill at tank
Post by: P69 on November 26, 2014, 10:07:59 PM

I'm moving the deck fill for the fuel tank from the deck to the cockpit sole.

The thread/slip fitting a the tank  end of the fill hose is a plastic 90 degree elbow and I need to replace that with a thread/slip straight.

It's an aluminum tank and I don't know if I should use plastic (what kind?), bronze, stainless steel (probably not) or Aluminum (probably).

Anyone have ideas regarding the material for that fitting and where to get one?

Thanks

My surveyor told me plastic is no good in fuel fills. When the tank in my boat was replaced some PVC elbows made their way into that line. I guess ABYC does not like that

Plastic, esp PVC, will create static charges as the fuel rushes past.  Not saying that it should be not used because of that, but I would definitely ground my fill port if using plastic lines.  Just another thing to think about.

I used exhaust hose on Journey as it is strong rubber, with wire reinforcement that doubles as a ground when I clamped the end onto both the tank and the fill port and back to the ground plate for the boat.
