Title: Main Halyard and Prop
Post by: CaptCG on June 02, 2014, 10:03:53 AM
Hello All,
Does anyone know the length of the rope/wire mainsail halyard?  I will be replacing mine.  Also, I have the standard issue prop on my 1980 sloop and would like to replace it with a prop offering a little more power, esp in reverse......if that is possible.  Does the transmission need to be set in reverse whilst sailing?  The boat is new to me as you may have guessed.  Thanks for your help.

Carl, The main sail halyard is3/16 SS wire 42 feet and 7/16 yacht braid 44 feet spliced end to end with a 1/4 inch swedge on wire end. As for prop with enough power and speed I run a three blade 17"X12 pitch Left hand. I hope this is some help. Allen

Carl,

My boat came with a maxi-prop. It's a wonderful thing. Feathers under sail and is great in reverse. They are pricey, but I believe worth with the investment. It's been on the boat about 15 years with no problems.
