Title: MaxProp noise
Post by: gidney on February 23, 2014, 12:57:59 PM
Hello everyone. I have a 365 ketch with a Maxprop Classic 3-blade feathering prop that exhibits an awful lot of swirling and gurgling noise- particularly in the 1500 rpm range. Would like to hear from any owners having similar experience. Bill   mckinleyhill377@yahoo.com

With the blades turned parallel to the keel, they should not rock more than about 1/8" forward and aft. If so, prop needs to come off and go to PYI for a rebuild. I think they charge about $450 for the rebuild.

I have the same prop on my 367.  I have never had that problem.  Make sure it's clean as the flat blade design makes even slight barnacles become a problem, and naturally make sure it is actuating properly in both directions.  Also don't discount the possibility of the noise coming from the transmission or Vdrive.
