Title: Universal 5444 dipstick
Post by: sailn on July 09, 2013, 07:38:03 PM
While the engine was out this spring I purchased a longer dipstick, and tube from a Kobuta tractor dealer. No more trips into the starboard locker, past the alternator, all the way to the bilge to check the oil. I can now reach it from inside the boat. It only took a short time to fabricate a bracket and it was well worth it.

The oil gauge ( dipstick ) is part # 16216-36413, and the tube is 16216-36503. Make sure the tube fits in your block. To see a picture of these check this sight.
Sorry the link was incomplete when I tested it. I Googled, " what tube does kubota part # 16216-36413 fit " and it gave me a site to open B7800HSD.pdf - Adobe Reader
I bent the hanger a little, to make it work, and bolted it to a bracket I built from flat bar. I found a strong point on the engine to bolt one end, and bent the metal so it would support the tube at the other end. To make things easier I welded the nut to the back side of the bracket, at the tube end. The tube was slid into the hole to a depth that made the new stick full mark match the old one . I put gasket maker around the tube to help seal it, but also hold it in place better. Once it was tightened all seemed secure.
I tried to get pictures last night, but they didn't come out. I will try again tonight.
Hope this helps..

I have a couple pics of the new dipstick. If you would like to see them contact me, and I will email them. I can now reach it by opening the engine compartment in the cabin.   :)
