Title: Mold and Damp Issues - Advice Wanted
Post by: Johnzion on October 26, 2012, 09:37:04 AM
Having some mold and damp issues - Particularly on the interior woodwork [cabinets, lockers, under wooden V-berth hatches, sometimes a bit on walls, underside of bilge hatches].

Boat is a 1980 365, I am a live aboard, on anchor or mooring [no shore power] right now in Massachusetts in October [cold water, condensation issues?].

There is only one dorade vent with a solar fan that runs only with direct sunlight. Maybe I have to add more venting? Are others having the same issues, and what have you done to help solve the problem?

Thank you

hi
do not know the temp there but I'm in the UK at the moment and its 7  to 8 c ,I took all the internal panels of over the last few years and lined the sides with 2 inch polystyrene and fitted a Taylor's 049 diesel heater ,i find this dries the boat out very well

I've got one dorade port side, but there's an exhaust outlet to it from the saloon and from the shower space.  Assume you've eliminated deck leaks wherever possible. If you're liveaboard and cooking over combustion, the water vapor from the burners adds to the problem-open a window or hatch when cooking and let that damp air out.  Then, what you're left with is you need enough heat to keep the temp above the dewpoint. It doesn't take much. But w/o shore power, how do you heat this time of year?
