Title: Sliding hatch
Post by: SV Hope on October 02, 2012, 08:44:32 PM
Hi folks,

Has anyone removed the sliding hatch cover at the companionway on the P365? Is there a trick to it?

Thanks.

Michael

Here's a link to some pics that Dale posted. Maybe they will help.

Michael,

There is a raised rim on three sides of the companionway opening, the final barricade for water to enter the boat.  In the picture below you can see all three sides.  The forward raised section of rim is the "stop" so to speak for the sliding hatch.  When the hatch is slid aft it hits the forward rim section and "stops".

The only way to remove the siding hatch is to remove the sea hood and slide the hatch forward and out or remove the sea hood and remove the metal rails and lift it up and out.  There is no trick just lots of work.  It probably isn't a bad idea to remove the sea hood and take a look at the aluminum fabrication under there  and see how bad it is corroded before something bad happens.
Good luck!

Dale

Hello Dale & Ray,

Thank you both for the link, images & advice on my question. I think I will put the project in the "too hard basket" for the moment.

Cheers

Michael
