Title: 365's that are actively cruising in 2012
Post by: Sta-Sea-Dawn on January 30, 2012, 12:32:47 PM
I am getting closer all the time.....I wonder how many 365ers are out there right now.....doing it.

I will be departing Hernando Beach, Florida in the summer of 2012 headed.

Sta-Sea-Dawn is  a 1978 ketch...hull number 193.  I have been refitting and up dating systems for about a year.

I hope to go southwest....Florida Keys...Cuba...Mexico...to Panama.

It would be great to read, listen to stories and adventures occurring now and maybe alter my itinerary accordingly.  Hopefully fellow 365ers will share here and include any blogs and web pages I may follow.....Billy

Greetings!

Looks like we are the newest members of this ship of crazies.  Wayne & Dana here.  We just purchased Journey, Hull #176.  The boat is moored in St Lucia and we plan to retire this summer and start our cruising life from there this coming Sept 2012.

Sounds like we won't cross paths, but we will be following you route the following year.   Would love to hear about your adventures.  Let us know if you post a blog and we will do the same when Dana gets it up and running.

We're now in St Martin. We'll continue heading north from here and spend next hurricane season working in Florida.  Then its of towards the Panama canal in Nov 2013.

The boat has been doing very well.  Our only problem has been the raw water pump on the engine and some standing rigging that desperately needs replacement.

I am glad to hear about you trip....I am in Florida (Hernando Beach).  I have almost everything done on the boat. Well, bought for the boat.

I have a few obligations that can not be rushed....Family (86 y/o mom) and healing from heart surgery.  I will be going to the San Blas Islands also, but gunk holing all the stops on the Yucatan roue.

What were the indications that you need rigging replacement?

The lower shroud on the mizzen broke clean during passage at the turnbuckle.  Fortunately we didn't have the mizzen up at the time!
When we got that replaced, the rigger found 3 of the 4 lower shrouds on the main to be cracked so we replaced all 4 lowers.

That got us out of Guadeloupe...

Not a week later I found a broken wire on the main cap shroud at the turnbuckle.  And that was it.  Scrap the plans to redo the rig once we get to Florida and get it all done in St Martin.  I have 3 rules...  Water stays outside the boat, rudder stays on, and the rig stays up.  Everything else is negotiable.  So... it is well past time.

Ahoy....I am still working on the boat and family...all goes well.
But I am considering moving form Weeki Wachi / Hudson, Fl to Punta Gorda or Cape Coral on the south west coast.  I hope someone in the area can give me some input on the anchoages.
I probably will try and buy a house in the area with a dock.

hey there again...it has been awhile.  Bev and I are finally going to do a  2 month trip to Cuba's south side.
We are going to shove off July 1st and return August 31st from central Florida.  We are setting up our float plan.  Our main source of info at the moment is...

Anyone have feedback on where to and where not to stop.  Bartering materials and does and do nots.
