SV THIRD DAY

We all have had to dig through all the storage items under the sink to check the oil Level on our Pearson's.  Here is a possible solution in a Tip Provided by Wally Jansen Pearson 365 #364 Salty Dog of St.Michaels,MD

To start, the dip stick tube on the Westerbeke 4-107's and 4-108's is 3/8" steel tubing.

Go to automotive store,
Buy (1) 4 foot length of 3/8" steel brake line
tubing.         ....... $4.89

It comes with both ends flared and with two male brass flare nuts.

Buy (1) 3/8" brass coupling to match the above nuts.        .......
$4.89.

A flaring tool kit is needed and sells for about $26.00 but, you may be able to borrow one.

Procedure:

1. Cut off one end of the auto tubing.
2. Remove the flare nut
3. Put the removed nut over the dip stick tubing extending  from the engine pan.
4. Flare the dip stick tube on engine dip stick tube.
5. Do NOT flare other end  of auto tubing. It becomes the oil pan pump out spot.
6. Make up joint with coupling and auto brake tubing.
7. Bend tubing between air inlet and engine mounted fuel filter.
8. Secure new tubing with a clamp over the tubing and extended to an engine bolt  near the fuel lift pump.
9. Get an automotive dip stick to replace the original one cut to size and mark proper level.

Note; Save the old dip stick in case you ever want to go back. It will also be useful for making marks on the new dip stick for correct oil level.
