Hi everyone:   The repower of the SV HakeLe was completed on 12/31/19.  That was the day we did her sea trial.  I could not be happier with the way she performs under power.   So now the specifics:  I went with a Beta35 with borg/werner velvet drive tranny with a zero reduction.  I didn't need to cut any of the cabinetry but disassembled a lot.  Some of the issues we had were:
1 the old drive shaft coupling was 3 bold and the new one was 4.  Not a big deal but beta had to send me the coupling and we had to find a machine shop to attach it to the old drive shaft.  lost 8 days there.
2.The telescoping drive shaft from the old paragon to the Vee drive was 40 years old and the 1" splined shaft was rusted in the larger shaft.  had to take it to a machine shop to get it out and order a new 1" shaft from walter machine co.
3. The instrument cover was from a company called seaworthygoods.com for about  65 bucks.  It only took a little trimming in the old instrument cut out.  I think it looks pretty good.
4. According to Walter mach co, when sailing we need to stop the prop from turning since no water is circulating with the engine off.  putting the new tranny in gear doesn't stop it.  A folding prop is about 2k, the product called "Shaftloc" is about 860+-.  I fabricated this frame with bicycle brakes and mounted the hand brake in the stb. cubby for less then 75 dollars.
5. I re-pitched my three blade, 17x10 prop to 17x12.  as such I spin up to 2650 RPM's at full throttle and need to be at 2800.  Beta advised that I just use her like this until my next haul out and take a half an inch of pitch out.  doesn't void the warranty.
6. had to have the engine mounts modified several times to get the alignment right.  This was the hardest part of the entire job.

I hope this will help someone, some day.   in other discussion strings many of you have helped me out and for that I thank you.  I also wish there was a way to post more than 4 pic's.
happy trails guys

Brilliant McGuyver on the shaft lock!  I would recommend an electrical switch that would disable the starter circuit when the shaft lock is on.  Otherwise it is only a matter of time before you smoke it off forgetting the lock was on.

RE: 4 picture limit. . . there is a bug in the forum software or the database it uses that corrupts the database when one attempts to attach more than 4 pictures.  I don't know enough about it to fix it, so we're stick with 4 pics per post.

OMG! More details on the homemade shaftlog please!! I hate listening to the shaft spin when my partner is at the helm and I am trying to relax below.  Do you have a drawing you could post, please?

No plans,  I just threw it together with pop rivets to hold things together until I could weld it.  The brake handle is the kind that goes on seniors walkers in that it can be locked.  The hard part was the 17' cable.  I found a guy who sells it by the foot on ebay as well as specials that clamp on the cable to form the end lug.  as for forgetting to unlock it, a simple post it on the tach by the ignition key  and if all fails, bicycle  brake pads are cheap
