Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what's this vent in the cockpit leading to the bilge for. The hose leads to nothing in the bilge. Was it attached to something in the past? The rubber has broken down and become sticky, so either I replace the hose or remove it altogether.

Hi Everyone,

Could someone tell me what is the replacement light bulb for the masthead anchor light, assuming it's the original fixture up there.

5 years and 20k+ miles sailing the Caribbean and Pacific:
50knot squall off the coast of Florida caught me unaware at night.  Shredded the mainsail. Lost helm control till I got the sail down.

40 knot 6 hour storm in the Pacific, laid ahull and the boat handled it well. Short storm so the seas didn't rise over 6 feet.

Carried a Gale Rider drogue with 200' line and a bit of chain and never had to deploy it.  Cheap insurance and peace of mind I suppose.

Only swamped the cockpit once, freak wave.  The drains were adequate to the task.  Some people have glassed in a 2 inch fiberglass tube to the rear wall of the cockpit and aft through the transom.

Overall I found the boat suitable for low latitude sailing offshore as designed.

For those who sail offshore, what are the roughest conditions you've encountered?  What were your concerns about the boat?

We've had a couple scares with big waves overwhelming cockpit drains. Thinking of plumbing extras. Anyone do something similar?

Does anyone know of a source for a new replacement galley sink?

I like your oil drain! Mine was on the bottom which was a problem as it was not accessible. Somebody probably welded in a more useful drain onto your pan at some point. Look for a welded closed area under the pan?  The other possibility is that it is an aftermarket pan or from another engine (Perkins?).
I permanently installed a banjo fitting and capped hose so I could easily connect my oil drain pump which made oil changes much easier. Even for your setup, this would be a cheap and useful mod.

Many people have had issues successfully replacing their rear main seal. It seems like half the people that do replace it have leaks afterwards.  I would suggest researching carefully.

Have fun!  ;D

Just getting started and wanted to say thanks to all who have posted on these topics in the past. Pulling the engine was made possible from all the great ideas posted here. CPA by trade so the rebuild should be a great learning adventure.

Engine ran fine but leaked oil badly (see picture of my rubber catch basin). Had to suck the oil out of the pan before each use.

Plan to compression test and leak down test the engine this weekend.

First oddity/question.........the manual shows the oil drain plug on the underside of the sump basin.  Mine is on the side (see pic). Any thoughts?

Greetings to all members of the Pearson Forum.
Now I own a sailing yacht Johnson26 made in Sweden. I want to exchange it for a larger yacht. The search for what I want led me to Pearson 365 ketch. Now I want to chat with the owners of this boat to find out more details about it, before making a purchase.
Thanks to everyone who shares useful information here.
I apologize for the wrong language. I am a citizen of Ukraine. I have bad English and I write an interpreter Google.

With best wishes, Oleksandr.

Here is a good article about replacing the damper plate on a Morgan OI.

The springs should be tight with no movement what so ever.  Time to upgrade for sure as they can come apart during operation and make a mess of your engine.  Also good working springs save your trans and V-drive from vibration wear.
Newer plates use elastomerics instead of springs.  I replaced mine in New Zealand so they are available on your side of the pond.
