Have you replaced the Pearson supplied engine hatch covers yet?

When I bought Springtide in 2010, I was surprised at the method of holding open the engine hatch covers, assuming them to be factory supplied. I have replaced them by adding eye bolts / nylon straps / hooks on stbd side by the stove and port side on the settee.

Original (I assume):

Hopefully Bob will post how he used gas struts to hold his engine hatches open..  :)

OK, I got tired of using the prop rods every time I wanted to check oil. I found these gas lifts at a surplus hardware store. I had to make my own brackets from some angle iron in this case. Since then I have ordered different sizes for the cockpit lockers and the lid on the step. It sure is nice to just lift it open and have it stay.

Just curious Bob, what's the thru-hull you have mounted portside in this photo?

The Thru Hull is a depth/speed/temp. There are already two depth sounder thru hulls forward.
If you look close you can see it on the outside in this picture.
