Greetings from Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, Mx. to be specific. We have been trying to sell our  Pearson for a year or so now, and because of my health, its time to pass it along to a Pearson family who knows the boat, and loves to keep up the Pearson tradition. I have kept up on Toothpick, 5 year old sails, running a Westerbek 50, which is my pride and joy, and runs great. We have added many extras to the vessel, small gen set, watermaker, ham radio, etc. all working with a few needed things, like a membrane for the Spectra watermaker. I would love to show you Pearson family friends more photos and information. Our Pearson Pilothouse 36 is waiting for a new owner. She has been our floating condo for twenty years, and now its time to have a new owner. She presently awaits a new owner in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in the Gold Coast of Mexico, with wonderful sailing venues, surrounding Bandaris Bay. Our Pearson pilothouse 36 has been for sale for some time, and now its time to get'er done. She has been our floating condo since 2002, in Puerto Vallarta, Mx.  Puerto Vallarta is a great sailing venue, with predicted winds of 20-25 knotts each afternoon. This is Mexico's Gold Coast, with sailing venues from Mazatlán, to Z Town. Normal daytime temps, 80 degrees, night time temps. in the 60's. Well, the Pearson site is still alive and well. We have been trying to sell our Pearson Pilothouse 36 for about six months now, and no one seems to be interested. I do not know the name of the small fuel pump, looks like a small transformer attached to some tubing. As I recall, I bought it from Napa Auto Parts, for not too much money, say around $25.00 years ago. I also used these low volume pumps to move fuel from a forward "emergency tank" under the v birth to the main fuel tank in the back. It will take hours for this, since the output of this small pump is very little. I do not hard wire the pump, just use long jumpers to attach 12 volts to it. And, of course, I am aboard watching this happen. These small fuel pumps work great. jim

I just finished the injector pump reseal job. It was impossible to see the CAV Lucas metal tag while the pump was installed, but from one of the guys on this forum, told me what his CAV injector pump was and some references back East. So I called and got the correct seal kit, and, after removing the pump from our boat, had it resealed, and bench tested, and now its back in the boat, and running fine. Apparently, the CAV pump has a small hole near the gear and when the lip seal fails, it starts dripping fuel out the little hole, telling you that the seal is gone, and needs attention. All is well now on Toothpick,,,jim BTY, member P39 has the references to the suppliers of reseal kits. j

Using the priming lever is a pain, so I installed a small 12v fuel pump, sold in auto parts stores, between the primary fuel filter and the lift pump. Now to replace the secondary filter on the top of the engine, its a breeze,... change the filter, and apply 12 volts to the pump, and in less than a minute, you will have fuel coming out of the banjo bolt. jim on Toothpick

The shower "door" project looks great; I have the 20 screws type, but your project works for me, so that will be on the list. Just finished removing the injection pump, and I think you gave me your injection pump number, and a list of possible places for a seal kit for it. there is an English guy on UTube who shows the complete tear down of this pump, and reinstall seals. I took out our pump, and since there is a mechanic here in Mexico who works the docks, and does immaculate work, I gave it to him, and in two days, it was back, clean, resealed, and bench tested. Wasn't much of a problem to reinstall, but the priming of the fuel is a collosal pain. Fortunately, several years back, I installed a small 12v fuel pump, in line between the primary fuel filter, and the lift pump, so it pumps away, and brings fuel up to the secondary fuel filter. It took several minutes to get the fuel to come out of the banjo bolt; now that I think about it, there is a lot of space that the fuel needs to get to before that happens. I have two injection pump drawings from Pearson, and the one which is illustrated as a service memo is the best. Anyway, it anyone needs this information, I will be happy to supply it. jim on Toothpick.

I removed the oil drain plug at the bottom of the pan, and had a machinest drill and tap a fitting in the drain plug..with a 2' piece of oil rated hose and a cap to close.  Now, when I want to change the oil, I attach a hose to the cap fitting and pump away all the old oil from the bottom of the sump. Works great, the only problem is getting the drain plug off. I made a special wrench to do the job. Enjoy jim, on Toothpick, Pearson PH36

If I pull the injection pump out of the engine, do I put it in TDC before I do it. and where are the timing marks for this engine? jim

Is it necessary to put the engine in TDC BEFORE you remove the injection pump. I have a Westerbek 50 and have a small fuel leak near the area where the pump attaches to the engine. It will be necessary to remove the altinator before I can really see it, but maybe its the fuel return fitting?? If I pull the injection pump, will timing be an issue when reinserting it, assuming that I make some scribe marks as long as I do not turn over the engine?? thanks for your response. jim on Toothpick

This part of Mexico is a secret, don't tell CNN or major new media. They call this part of Mexico the gold coast, because of the weather, and the people. Drugs are all over Mexico as well as the upper 48, so that does not change. Here the locals are investing in their county, and would rather just live, raise a family, and try to stay away from government clutches. We have lived on our boat for 15 years, coming home to northern California in the summer when the weather is way toooo  hot and humid. We have used Toothpick as a condo here in Mexico, moving to see sights, but always returning to Nuevo Vallarta, (near Puerto Vallarta) where the bay is beautiful, nice local anchorages, etc. and a nice airport. I was able to determine which CAV injection pump I have on my Westerbek 50. I believe it is model:  DPA#3342F710, model 562WW. A company in Sandy Lake, Pa named Wimer Fuel Injection and Turbo was able to find the seal kit for this pump. Now I have to find a good mechanic in Mexico where Toothpick is lying to do the job, or bring the pump back home and have Wimer do the job. Isn't it fun to go cruising, where the motto is fixing your stuff in foreign places. jim on Toothpick
