KIDTLTACK

Hi everyone,
Recently purchased a 1979 Pearson Ketch.  The boat is stored in northern Michigan and I am here in Indianapolis. I am hoping someone could tell me the access dimensions for the opening under the seat for the transom locker.

Thanks,
Brian

Welcome.   Our boat is also pretty far away from us or I would measure for you, but we are going to be there weekend after next.  (We live in Chugiak Alaska, Boat is in Seward, 3 hour drive through mountain passes in the winter.....)  We can measure when we are there next.

I assume you mean the propane locker right?  Is it just the opening you need, or the depth as well?  It's for a sort of a bevel so the opening isn't purely rectangular. This is from another 365 that I looked at in Ventura before we bought Polaris.   We are in the process of upgrading our propane tanks to horizontal ones that have the new OPD valve for modern coast guard/ABYC code.  Complicated issue, legally you don't absolutely have to, but getting anyone to refill your tanks can be a problem if you don't.  Also it came up on the survey and the insurance company wants it done.

Brian,

I live it as I bought the boat in Maryland and lived in Buffalo.  I made the trip 31 times before we sailed her home.  Now the boat sits in the boat barn under 200 feet from our house, so what every dimension or picture you need just ask.

Dave is correct, the hatch you are talking about is not rectangular.  It is 28-1/2" wide on top and 28" wide on the base by 14-1/2" cutting across the diagonal as can be seen in Dave's picture.

Hope this helps...

Hey!  That solves a  question for me.  I have that same propane arrangement but thought it was someones after market modification.  The other 365s I have seen have a cavernous locker there.

We bought one new propane tank from West Marine this year (spendy!) as it did indeed become difficult to refill it in the States.  People in other countries just don't seem to care about inspections and such. We found it hard to find a horizontal 20lb that would fit there.

Once the tanks are removed, the floor of the propane locker is removable by unbolting it.  Have you looked into placing an extra fuel tank under it?  I figure I could get a custom made 22 gal tank to fit there. Journey had a water maker there when we bought it but I removed it as it didnt work.  There was also a generator there at one time in the past.

Brian:  Just got back home from Seward.  After shoveling  about a foot of snow, here are some pics and dimensions, supervised by a bald eagle on the lamp post near by.  About 17 1/2 inches tall, without the cradle for the bottles.  28 inches wide, the diagonal dimension is 7 inches, and the horizontal width is 9.  (We needed to shovel anyway).
